Another Armed Active Assailant Strikes

The nation reels from the aftermath of yet another Armed Active Assailant incident.  Around 6:56 pm on October 25, 2023, a 40-year-old man with mental health issues opened fire on crowds of people at two separate locations in Lewiston, Maine.  His actions resulted in the deaths of 18 people and the wounding of another 13 people.  The shooter was found deceased about 48 hours later. 

Unfortunately, the pace of these incidents this year appears to be on track to establish a record high of incidents.  With the trend increasing, the result is a higher probability that your establishment may be next to experience such a horrific event. 

Denial is not a plan for success

Do you or others in your organization say?, “It will never happen here.” Never say never!  Where will the next bolt of lightning strike during the thunderstorm?  So, what do you do?  You take actions to protect yourself, don’t you?  If you are caught outdoors during a thunderstorm, you seek shelter in a building or vehicle.  This decreases your risk of being struck by lightning, doesn’t it?  Just like the thunderstorm, you can take actions to lessen your risk associated with the Armed Active Assailant.
